My short story TRAITEURS was published in the online literary journal 10kt0bi (Ten Thousand Tons of Black Ink) as the featured story in February, 2013.
“Traiteurs” is the Cajun French word for healers. In this very short piece (<1,000 words), I wanted to create a small, quiet world with just a touch of woo-woo.
It really drew me in. I instantly noticed the present tense, but after the first paragraph–I was too into the story to notice. I had my notions, but I was wrong. Nice surprise.
Thank you, Elaine. I enjoy reading and writing in present tense, but I know that’s not the same for everyone. It was a small space, so I had to get right into the story, from word one.

Haven’t read it yet because I’m at work, but I love the concept and look forward to reading it over the weekend. Mega congrats!

The idea, using a healer/sitter, played around in my head for a little while before I wrote it Nancy. So it was fun to get it down at last.

What a gorgeous little tale. A whole world in such a few words. I couldn’t seem to comment there, but MUST do it here!
